The Game Changer

"verynice. is a global design strategy consultancy that ignites movements, builds brands, & changes perspectives." Women's March

January 18, 2017 Audrey Stanton

Whether you will be gathering in D.C. or in your home city, there is a lot going on this weekend. I, unable to make it to the east coast, will be participating in the Women's March on Los Angeles! (Check out the Women's March website if you're unsure where your nearest march is.) I have to say that I'm excited and nervous to join in on such a powerful event and want to put some of that energy into something before Saturday. I decided on DIY-ing some fabric pins with fabric scraps and some embroidery thread. Mine is currently a small work in progress but there are plenty of other ways you can make your own march gear:

  • Upcycle an old t-shirt- with paint, patches, pins or stamps.
  • Knit or upcycle yourself a wristband using patriotic colors or pink to stand in solidarity with Planned Parenthood!
  • Use old magazines and newspapers to create a protest sign.

OR get yourself one of the consciously made items showcased on the Good Support website.

If you are in the LA area there are a couple of events in preparation for the march at Women's Center for Creative Work and Junior High. You can also follow the Women's March on Instagram for a daily dose of inspiration.

And lastly don't forget to stay safe and know your rights!

Whether you're celebrating a holiday or are simply feeling generous this time of year, buying is on many people's minds right now. It can be a stressful time and staying sustainable can understandably seem like yet another challenge. However, this doesn't have to be true! I've gathered some great guides, tips and tricks to help make responsible holiday shopping easier! Here are 5 resources to utilize this season so you can really spread the love:

  1. The Good Trade's guide to 'experience gifts' has some exciting options, and can make you look at gifting in an entirely new way- think concert tickets, massage vouchers or even the classic IOU books.
  2. The Ethical Unicorn blog is a great source of ethical gifting inspiration. Check out this year's 'Ethical Advent' series and then get tips on sustainable ways to wrap those ethical gifts!
  3. Stitched Up Cooperative has put out a 'Thrifty Christmas' Youtube series which showcases easy- and festive- DIY projects! Join in on the fun without breaking the bank.
  4. Shop sustainable/ethical brands to find quality items that will last! Study 34 just released their new and improved 'jumpers', which can be purchased on their website. The light weight knit is stylish, comfortable and lovingly made in the UK.
  5. Lastly here's a short think-piece about why lessening, or even stopping, your gift giving could be a good thing! Rookie Magazine's 'anti-gift guide' is definitely worth a read.
